I was encouraged by several of my friends and co-workers to write my life's story. I was raised in New Jersey and ventured West to seek my fame and fortune as a rodeo cowboy. I started riding bulls at the Cowtown Rodeo in Woodstown, New Jersey. I attended the University of Wyoming on academic and rodeo scholarships. After graduating from the University of Wyoming with a business degree, I continued to ride bulls on the rodeo circuit as a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA).
Later, I became a professional rodeo announcer and a television broadcast commentator for Prime Sports and FOX Sports Networks. I am the first and only African American to have achieved the distinction of earning an announcer's card with the PRCA.
My first book is titled "My Cowboy Hat Still Fits". It was published in March 2005. My second book was titled "Justin: A Father's Fight for His Son". It was published in August 2009. I am also a free-lance writer for the monthly publication Humps N' Horns Bull Riding News (Chouteau, Oklahoma). I've had a monthly column now for nine consecutive years.
In December 2006, I was inducted into the Salem County (New Jersey) Sports Hall of Fame. In November 2010, I was inducted into the National Multicultural Western Heritage Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas.
I'm also a financial services professional, a motivational speaker and plan to write at least three more books on African American rodeo cowboys. My hope and dream is to keep alive and preserve the legacy that black cowboys do exist and are for real.
